Step 4 of 10 · Learn at your own pace
What this means for your business
Startup logistics are the practical pieces that let you actually deliver: workspace, supplies, scheduling, transportation, insurance, and any registrations or permits you need. What’s required depends on where you live, what you do, how your business is set up, and other details. There’s no single checklist that fits every business.
A sole proprietorship, a partnership, an LLC, and a corporation each come with different rules around ownership, liability, paperwork, and taxes. An LLC — short for limited liability company — doesn’t protect you from every kind of liability. Use official agencies and qualified advice when you’re deciding. A state checking that your business name is available is not the same as a federal trademark clearance, and even a trademark search doesn’t guarantee a name is free to use.
The official resource page links to the SBA, the IRS, the USPTO, and Ohio state agencies. An EIN — an employer identification number — is free straight from the IRS, so avoid any paid middleman offering to get you one. Check whether you actually need one, along with any state or local registrations. Confirm current rules, fees, and renewal dates at the source, and never enter identification numbers or private documents in this app.
A real-world example
Before offering closet organizing, you’d check your local rules on home-based work, think about whether you need insurance, and agree on scope and privacy with your customer up front. Preparing food for customers brings in a whole different set of health and permit questions. Don’t just copy another business’s paperwork list and assume it fits yours too.
Try these actions
- List where you’ll work, what you’ll be doing, and whether it’s home-based, mobile, online, or at a venue.
- Compare your structure options and write down questions for a qualified adviser.
- Open the official registration resources and check what your city, county, state, and industry actually require.
- List the supplies, workspace, transportation, safety steps, and insurance questions you’ll need to sort out.
- Keep a private checklist of required steps, official sources, fees, and renewal dates somewhere outside this app.

Only roadmap completion is saved when you opt in, not your reflection or activity checks. Without saving, progress lasts during this visit; nothing is sent to a server.
